Corrosion of Conformity

When they were starting out, they were a bunch of kids blending thrash metal with hardcore punk. After the angry early days, they changed course, slowed down and developed their inimitable style. Their southern/sludge imbued with the blues feeling is full of emotional depth, heaviness as well as punchiness. Listen to these riffs once and you’re gone for – especially live.

History:

Corrosion of Conformity dates back to 1982. The band was formed in Raleigh. They quickly began to build their street cred, touring intensely and releasing a lot of material. In the first three years of their career, they already had under their belt two full-length albums, two splits and a demo. In those early stages, the Americans played a rabid hardcore punk with thrash cheek. With the 1987 EP Technocracy, they added the sludge rockfall into the mix, and on the breakthrough Blind, released in 1991, they finally came into their own. It’s a record from the intersection of sludge and southern metal, with a distinct blues groove and the remnants of the thrash aesthetics in the background. The follow-up album, Deliverance, which was even more southern and at times even ventured into stoner territory, was the band’s ticket to fame. The record went gold in the US. The following record, Wiseblood, was also a big success. In 2006, Corrosion of Conformity disbanded, only to come back four years later. Their latest album is the 2018 No Cross No Crown, but anytime now the band is to release their newest record, with which they’ll come to Mystic Festival.
