They started out as just kids and achieved success at quite a young age. Later on, they faced many misfortunes, but they never let them trample them. Decapitated is one of the most important Polish metal bands. Their impeccable, perfectly executed technical death metal with an element of groove always hits with appropriate force.
History:
When Decapitated were starting out, they were still kids – literally. The band’s founders at the time of its formation (so back in 1996) were 12 and 16 years old. In 1997 and 1998, they released their first demos and in 2000, their debut album, Winds of Creation, which was produced by Peter from Vader. The record, which was an instance of technical death metal played with clinical precision, was acclaimed both by critics and fans. The two subsequent records – Nihility and The Negation – were even better and showcased the band’s progress. On Organic Hallucinosis, the band moved away a bit from their death metal core, venturing off into the sounds akin to those of Meshuggah and others. In 2007, during their European tour, a tragedy struck – Decapitated’s drummer, Vitek, died in a car crash, which also left their vocalist, Covan, seriously injured. After this event, the band disbanded and only came back two years later. In 2011, they released their comeback album, Carnival Is Forever, followed by three more albums. The latest full-length record of the Krosno band is Cancer Culture from 2022.
