The occult, the devil, hell and weed โ a whole lot of weed, actuallyโฆ With Electric Wizard you can expect charcoaled riffs, freshly unearthed, that sound like tar poured over their listenersโ ears. Youโll hardly come by bigger legends of stoner or doom metal from the past few decades. When you listen to their music, you feel as if the pot trip has left you at the bottom of the bong. A few minutes with them and youโll be guaranteed a good time.
History:
Technically speaking, Electric Wizard was founded in 1993, but the bandโs world started to form a lot earlier. From 1988 to 1993, the Brits were playing death/doom metal as Morbicus, Putrefaction, Lord of Putrefaction, Thy Grief Eternal, and Eternal, to finally settle on the current name and an important stylistic refashioning. Death metal was yesterdayโs news, and the doom core was supplemented with stoner riffs paying tribute to Black Sabbath. The bandโs debut album, containing material in the new stylistic vein, wasnโt shabby, but it was Come My Fanaticsโฆ that broke the bank and is still considered to be one of the best records of the band. Nevertheless, the best was still to come. The third record of the English, released in 2000, Dopethrone has since gained a cult status in the stoner/doom circles and is considered to be one of the best metal records of the last three decades. After its release, Electric Wizard became a mainstay band. Their subsequent records, Witchcult Today and Black Masses in particular, have also enjoyed considerable acclaim. The Bournemouth bandโs most recent LP is the 2017 Wizard Bloody Wizard.ย
