- GENRE: thrash metal
- COUNTRY: USA
Always overshadowed by more famous peers, always more demanding than the rest. Forbidden have never been a band that played “entry-level” music. This thrash is complex, technically advanced, and oftentimes ghastly. If we include their venturing into the eerie groove in the 90s, we’ll get the full set – a truly original formation.
History:
The history of Forbidden began in 1985. Back then, they played under the name of Forbidden Evil, though they quickly changed it to the current one to avoid being mistaken for a black metal band. After an abundant demo rollout, through which the band earned the acclaim of the thrash underground of the Bay Area, in 1998, the time came to release their debut album, Forbidden Evil. The record is counted amongst the most important and essential of the American thrash metal scene. Two years later, the band released Twisted into Form, an album even more technically advanced, with better songwriting, altogether a much darker improvement on the predecessor. After a four year drought, the band made a comeback with Distortion. It’s a slower, more groove-oriented album. The situation was similar with Green, an album on which the thrash element was completely removed. In 1997, Forbidden disbanded and only returned a decade later. The reactivation resulted in a comeback record, Omega Wave. In 2012, Forbidden went on an indefinite hiatus, only to return again in 2023. We hope that this time they’re back for good.
