- GENRE: black metal
- COUNTRY: Austria
You can find them where the land of the calm meets the sea of noise. They weave post-rock, shoegaze dreaminess into the bitter structures of black metal. Harakiri for the Sky is one of the most important names of post-black metal, and, above all else, they are the genre’s textbook representatives. In their music, you will find all the best that the genre has to offer – especially live.
History:
Harakiri for the Sky hails from the Austrian city of Salzburg. From the very beginning, the project has been led by the duo of J.J. (who contributes the vocals) and M.S. (who contributes everything else). It all started with the 2012 self-titled album, released just in time for the then-booming interest in post-black metal. Not only was Harakiri for the Sky approaching the genre with technical finesse, but the band also stood out with their unmatched depth of sadness. Their subsequent records garnered the appreciation of bigger and bigger audiences, and their 2018 album Arson even debuted on the Austrian charts. In 2022, the band re-recorded their first two albums, i.e. Harakiri for the Sky and Aokigahara. The Austrian band’s latest release is the 2025 Scorched Earth.
