Black, thrash, speed – that’s the unholy genre trinity that lives rent-free in James McBain’s mind. He is the leader and sole member of the Scottish Hellripper. The songs are devilish, full of fun, fast as the devil himself and they just force you to headbang constantly.
History:
Hellripper is the solo project of the Scottish multi-instrumentalist, James McBain. The musician has always been fascinated by black/speed/thrash metal and this is exactly the direction he took for his own band. It all started in 2014 and his first bits of music (that is, the debut EP and two splits) came a year later. In 2016, McBain was joined by three live musicians and started touring intensely. Hellripper’s debut album, Coagulating Darkness, was received well and praised for its aggression and great songwriting. Its successors, The Affair of the Poisons from 2020 and Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags from 2023, led Hellripper to become a household name in the metal underground.
