Marduk

They’re one of the biggest and most convincing blasphemers in the history of black metal. What’s more, the level of sheer brutality in their songs exceeds all permissible limits. Marduk is one of the most enduring and impassioned bands that this genre has seen. Ready for an anti-Christian blast attack packed with aggressive riffs? You will get nothing else.

History:

The Swedish Marduk was formed in 1990. The band’s name derives, of course, from the Babylonian deity. They debuted two years later with the record Dark Endless, which sounds a bit different from the band’s subsequent material. Yes, there is a lot of rabid black metal on it, but it’s blended with the typically Swedish death metal that’s full of gloomy melodies. Never again did the band venture into that direction. Already, the 1993 album Those of the Unlight was a huge paradigm shift. On it, we were served a pure-blooded, raging, rapid – at times even catchy – black metal. For the remainder of the 90s, the Norrköpping band sharpened their style, coloured by all shades of blasphemy, which the band’s name became synonymous with. In 1999, Marduk released Panzer Division Marduk – their most rabid and ruthless record, considered by many fans to be their best. 2004, however, saw a major change in the band’s line-up – the seasoned screamer, Legion, was replaced by Mortuus, of Funeral Mist fame. With him on board, the band has released seven full-length records, the latest of which is the 2023 Memento Mori
