Technically The Bug, aka Kevin Martin, does not play metal, but many a metalhead could envy the heaviness of his emotions and sound. His thickset compositions carried forward by crushing rhythms, sailing from dubstep through ragga to even UK bass, are a pure force of nature.
History:
When The Bug released its first record, Tapping the Conversation, in 1997, Kevin Martin was already an established figure of the British alternative scene. The underground scene, that is. He had played with God, Ice, and Techno Animal. Although the aforementioned record was more of the trip-hop or downtempo persuasion, with Pressure, released six years later, the Bug emerged in its current iteration – something closer to dubstep or ragga whereabouts. This sound created quite the buzz for the project, with even the British god of the alternative, John Peel, expressing his admiration. The artists went on a six-year-long hiatus between releasing London Zoo (2008) and Angels & Devils (2014), but since his comeback, he’s been releasing material with surprising regularity.
