Mystic Festival 2023: We welcome the New Year with a wave of death and black metal

We have various shades of metal on the program of Mystic Festival 2023, but in today’s announcement we only have violence and darkness. Keep your guard up high! Defleshed, Witchmaster, Necrotted, Akhlys, Mord’A’Stigmata, Kanonenfieber and Nyrst are heading straight to Gdansk.

“Fast Forward” – is the title of the album with which the Swedes had bid farewell to the 20th century – it said everything about their music. There is no room for nuance, hesitation and subtleness, their music is fast, with a forward drive and they don’t look at any causalities that are left behind. This is death metal mayhem on a solid thrash foundation. And on the other hand “Grind over Matter,” their last album, saw the band’s return after dozen years of silence and it testified to Defleshed’s consistently excellent form.

The Devil, rampage, death metal. One of the most uncompromising bands in the history of Polish metal, reminded us of themselves last year with the masterful album “Kaźń.” This title translates to “Carnage” – and we will be delighted to undergo this torture live. The band features legends of the Polish scene, musicians associated with Behemoth, Vader, Profanum, Azarath and Christ Agony, among others.

Strong in traditional metal, Germany has never been regarded as a death metal powerhouse, but that’s an unfair stereotype. Necrotted contradicts this with their every filthy note they play. Combining technical nuances with unfettered aggression, on albums like “Operation: Mental Castration” and “Worldwide Warfare “, they have offerings for both those raised on Carcass and an audience fed on deathcore.

Akhlys was born as the solo project of Naas Alcameth (Nightbringer, Arcana Beast, among others) to perform dark-ambient rituals. However, it evolved into a band and introduced black metal violence – both of mythological and purely physical dimensions. The outstanding album “Melinoë” (2020) secured Akhlys’ place in the elite of the American black metal scene.

A Malopolska-based group that started with black metal nearly two decades ago and now leads its listeners through a grim musical labyrinth, where neither the starting point nor the direction of the march matter – what matters is the dark beauty and unique character of the moment. The fantastic album “Like Ants and Snakes,” released in 2022, guarantees that this will be an unforgettable concert.

From Iron Maiden and Slayer to Sabaton, metal has always fed on war. Kanonenfieber’s vision, however, is unique as it is expert, hence the delights of his – because it’s a solo project by someone named Noise – debut album “Menschenmühle.” The fact that we are dealing with a high-quality alloy of death, black and thrash metal is also unmissable.

The name of this black metal quintet from Reykjavik means “the most northern,” and this is exactly the concept of their music, laid out on their debut “Orsök.” It’s darkness, coldness, despair, loneliness, madness….

We remind that the festival’s line-up already includes Ghost, Danzig, Gojira, Meshuggah, Behemoth, The Hellacopters, Testament, Watain, Moonspell, Perturbator, Exodus, Dismember, Voivod, Alcest, Sleep Token, Unleashed, Carpathian Forest, Grave, Soen, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons (with a Motörhead set), Godflesh, Primitive Man, Earthless, Lucifer, Greg Puciato, Wolfheart, Lord Of The Lost, Nothing More, Horskh, Heriot, Sylvaine, Employed To Serve, Planet Of Zeus, Antimatter, Darkher, Molybaron, Bombus, Ne Obliviscaris, LLNN, Pupil Slicer, Birds In Row, Undeath, Lili Refrain, Bury Tomorrow, Orbit Culture, Black Mirrors and Pure Bedlam.
