- GENRE: progressive metal, thrash metal
- COUNTRY: Switzerland
They are and always will be one of the biggest ones out there when it comes to technical thrash. The Swiss Coroner was one of the first bands to marry reeling tempos with breakneck instrumental figures, and they’ve never let the flame go out. During their previous concerts on Polish soil, they always gave us 110% – on Mystic Festival, they’re sure to deliver just as much.
History:
Coroner was formed in 1983 in Switzerland. Immediately after the band’s formation, the three-piece released the demo Depth of Hell. Three years later, they hit us with another demo, Death Cult, with Tom G. Warrior from Celtic Frost providing the vocals – such a turn of events came about as, at the time, the musicians were Celtic Frost’s techies. In 1987, the time came for their full-length debut, R.I.P., on which the raw matter of thrash metal is combined with many a technical and progressive play. The subsequent records, i.e. Punishment for Decadence, No More Color and Mental Vortex, continued to boost their popularity and develop their tech-thrash style. A turning point came in 1993 with the release of Grin, on which the band tried their hand at darker, slower and more industrial songs. Three years later, they disbanded and only came back to life in 2010. In 2025, they released their first studio album in 32 years – Dissonance Theory.
