- GENRE: industrial, nu-metal
- COUNTRY: USA
They were one of the biggest metal stars of the late 1990s and the early 2000s, as they had perfect timing and killer hits. Static-X is a riled, aggression-ridden marriage of industrial, nu-metal, catchiness and… dancibility. Each of these descriptions still holds true, as you will be able to find out for yourselves at the band’s concert at Mystic Festival.
History:
Static-X came to be in 1994, first as Static. It was formed by, of course, Wayne Static and the drummer Ken Jay. After some time, the band changed their name to Static-X, and after the first couple of years spent workshopping their style and self-conception, they released their debut album, Wisconsin Death Trip, in 1999. The record sold around a million copies in the US, and songs such as “Push It” were smashing hits on rock (but only) radio stations. The two-year-younger sophomore album, Machine, was also quite a hit. The subsequent records, from Shadow Zone to Cult of Static, solidified the band’s standing, with their combined discography selling over three million copies around the world. In 2014, the band’s leader, Wayne Static, passed away. Four years after his death, the remaining original members decided to reactivate the band in Wayne’s memory. Since then, the Americans have released two albums, the latest of which, Project: Regeneration Vol. 2, came out in 2024.
