Turbo

Turbo was formed in January 1980. The band was founded by Wojciech Hoffmann. Across the first few months, they wrote a couple hard rock songs and their line-up was constantly changing. Only in November did things settle, with Grzegorz Kupczyk (vocals), Andrzej Łysków (rhythmic guitar) and Piotr Przybylski (bass) joining the ranks. Three years later, they released their legendary debut album, Dorosłe dzieci. The mixture of hard rock from the Poznań band’s early days with heavy metal captured the attention of listeners, particularly the album’s closing title track, a ballad that became Turbo’s biggest hit. Their sophomore album, Smak ciszy, released two years later, continued in that artistic direction, and in 1987, the band went on to release their third, fan-favourite album, the thrash-curious Kawaleria szatana. In the following years, the four-piece ventured into even more experimental territories, blending thrash with death metal elements. The closer to the 90s, the bigger the tension among members in the band. After releasing the almost entirely death metal One Way in 1992, Turbo disbanded. The band came back almost a decade later with Awatara, a nu-metal forward outing, but 2004 marked their true homecoming with the release of Tożsamość and the return to classic heavy metal. Not long after, Grzegorz Kupczyk left the band for the second time and he was replaced by Tomasz Struszczyński. With him in the ranks, the band recorded all of their subsequent material, including their latest album Blizn, released last year.
