Unleashed

Unleashed was founded in 1989 by Johnny Hedlund – the band’s leader and frontman. Soon after, he was joined by Fredrik Lindgren, Robert Sennebäck and Andres Schultz. In 1990, Robert left the band and the position of the guitarist was taken over by Tomas Måsgard, who still plays with the band. This line-up change, alongside with the replacement of Sennebäck for Fredrik Folkare in 1995 are the only member shifts in the history of Unleashed. After self-releasing two demos in 1990, the Swedes signed with Century Media. The band’s debut release with the label was another demotape and in 1991, they released a much beloved album of death metal fans, Where No Life Dwells. The following two records were a continuation of the grave yet epic lethal beating, then rendered slightly lighter on Victory, but with the 1997 Warrior, Unleashed changed tactics, arming their arsenal with some rock’n’roll elements. They lingered within their sound for a couple years, but not long after the band returned to old school death metal. Then, on the record As Yggdrasil Trembles, the Stockholm band went fully into the direction of melodic black and death metal, elements of which manifested with various levels of intensity on the subsequent releases. The band will come to Mystic Festival as part of their tour supporting Fire Upon Your Lands.
