- GENRE: black metal
- COUNTRY: USA
If your band counts amongst its members musicians who have plied their trade in bands such as Cattle Decapitation or Agoraphobic Nosebleed, you know things are serious. And if it’s fronted by one Phil Anselmo, then there’s no question about it. The black metal, anti-Christian, darkness-laden Scour will blow you off the face of the earth, you can rest assured of that.
History:
Scour was founded in 2015 by Phil Anselmo, Derek Engemann, John Jarvis, Jesse Chobel, and Chase Fraser. The last two left the band two years later and were replaced by Adam Jarvis and Mark Kloeppel respectively. On the 2016 EP Grey, the five-piece presented black metal tempered in death metal brutality. They kept things the same for the subsequent mini-albums, i.e. Red and the pandemic release Black. For the next five years, the American ensemble did not rush with the release of new material and only in 2025 (right on time for the 10th anniversary of their founding) did they unleashed onto the world their debut full-length record, Gold. Stylistically, it is a continuation of the sound the band introduced on Grey, and Metal Injection deemed it “an absolute black metal masterpiece.”
