Dopethrone

Dopethrone plays it heavy. Truly heavy. Slow tempos, mastiff like riffs and in general, no mercy for the listener. It’s supposed to be slow and deafening. The Canadian crew are masters of doom/sludge/stoner flogging.

History:

The band formed in 2008, taking their name from the title of the iconic Electric Wizard record, though simultaneously they wished to spoof Darkthrone. Subtle humours elements have permeated their work, though musically they’ve always been dead serious. Their music is situated somewhere at the intersection of doom, sludge and stoner metal, and they’re always slow and heavy. They debuted with an album titled Demonsmoke and also immediately won over the doom/stoner aficionados. And with each subsequent release, things only got better. Their biggest success thus far came with the 2018 record Transcandian Anger, which was lauded and raved about in metal media. Their latest album is Broke Sabbath, released last year.
