- DAY: 05.06
- STAGE: Park Stage
- COUNTRY: Norway
There’ll be death punk, there’ll be rock’n’roll, there’ll be charisma drenched in sex appeal, and there’ll be self-aware wit and wisecracking in just the right amount. The Norwegian rock legends of Turbonegro will play in Poland for the first time in seven years and they will show what it means to be true party animals.
History:
Turbonegro was founded in Oslo in 1989. The band was formed by its main songwriter and primary driving force, Happy Tom, as well as Vegard Heskestad, Pål Bøttger Kjærnes, Rune Grønn, Pål Erik Carlin, and Tor-Kristian “TK” Jenssen. Only Runne and Tom have been playing in the band from its very beginning to this day. Turbonegro’s early years are quite shocking when juxtaposed with what we know them for. The music they initially played was more akin to noise rock, and only after their 1992 debut album did they enter into the realm of their iconic death punk – an original blend of punk rock, glam rock and hard rock that the band forged. After a tour of rather disappointing results, the first vocalist of the band left and was replaced by their most iconic frontman, Hank Von Helvete. With him on board, the band recorded Never Is Forever. And with the following record, Ass Cobra, there came a breakthrough. The band sounded more rock’n’roll than ever, clad in denim top to bottom. They were becoming more and more popular. Apocalypse Dudes continued that trend, but due to Hank’s drug issues, Turbonegro disbanded. They came back in 2003 and with Party Animals they reached a whole new level of popularity. Hank left the band for good in 2010 and passed away eleven years later. He was replaced by Anthony Madsen-Sylvester and with him on board, the band recorded their latest two records.
