The densely populated stoner scene of the 21st century abounds in names – Elder is one of the significant ones. Currently docked in Germany, the Americans know how to mine power from a riff, ambiance from psychedelic rock, and daredevilry from progressive rock.
History:
Elder was formed in 2005 in Massachusetts, with its driving force from the very beginning being the lead vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter, Nick DiSalvo. Things started out small, with the band gradually gaining attention after the release of a split with Queen Elephantine and a demo. In 2008, the band released their self-titled debut album with the classic stoner/doom sound. The growing popularity of the stoner scene at the time boosted theirs as well. On their subsequent records the band mixed in progressive and psychedelic elements, further enriching their style. The 2017 album Reflections of a Floating World was included in the metal top 5 year-end list of the Rolling Stone magazine. In 2020, the band moved to Germany. Their latest album, Innate Passage, was released in 2022.
