Today Is the Day

They don’t really play metal – it’s more of an inspiration for them – but the emotional heaviness, darkness and crushing energy of their music gorges on many a metal element. Today Is The Day blend noise rock with post-hardcore, leaving no space for anything nice. There’s nothing to it but pain.

History:

Today Is The Day was formed in 1992, following Steve Austin’s initiative, who has remained the project’s creative core. From the beginning, their style was uncompromising, blending noise rock, experimental metal and industrial brutality with emotional honesty. Their early albums, Willpower in particular, solidified their reputation as an extreme band and brought them a loyal fanbase. A breakthrough came when they were signed by the cult Relapse Records, with which they released Temple of the Morning Star, In the Eyes of God and, in particular, Sadness Will Prevail – albums considered today to be important milestones in the history of the extreme music of the 90s. Many line-up changes – throughout the years, the band counted amongst its members future members of bands such as Mastodon or Converge – only emphasised that Today Is The Day was Austin’s baby, one full of rage and noise. The band’s latest record is the 2025 album, Never Give In
