Ice Nine Kills

Music and film often go hand in hand. In the case of Ice Nine Kills, it’s absolutely the baseline. When it comes to them, horror and the general fascination with the darker side of cinema easily weave into eclectic songwriting. What don’t they do? Alt metal, symphonic elements, metalcore, post-hardcore… All this forged into massive hits that you can’t get out of your head.

History:

Founded in the year 2000 in Boston, Ice Nine Kills is a product of two high school buddies, Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz, finding a common musical tongue. The former (the band’s vocalist) remains its only founding member still in the band. At the very beginning of their career, they simply went by Ice Nine and kept using the name for the next six years – up until the release of their debut album, Last Chance to Make Amends, in 2006. As Ice Nine, the band mostly played ska and pop-punk, which remained their sound until the aforementioned full-length record. In 2007, they released the EP The Burning and started touring quite intensely soon after. The breakthrough came with their sophomore album, Safe Is Just a Shadow, which saw a shift to the style they’re known for today – more metal, more hardcore, and more portentous. A boost in popularity came with the even more polished The Predator Becomes the Prey from 2014. Since then, the popularity of Ice Nine Kills has only grown. Today, they are fully-fledged stars, which they are sure to prove in June in Gdańsk.
