Vltimas

There was no way in hell that Vltimas wouldn’t work. A quick glimpse into the band’s line-up tells a lot already. There’s David Vincent, one of the biggest voices of death metal, behind the mic. There’s also Rune Eriksen who essentially defined contemporary black metal riffing. And then there’s Flo Mounier, a disgustingly talented drummer who for years has kept Cryptopsy in check. They sound like you imagine them to â€“ like a perfectly executed, clinically precise black metal in cahoots with lethal death metal. No mercy.

History:

Vltimas was formed in 2015. It all started with Rune Eriksen (a long-standing propelling force behind Mayhem) working for some time on an array of riffs that married his typical, black metal cold with a more pronounced death metal accent. The melodies and songs for months locked away in the sock drawer had to finally see the light of the day.

The Portugal-based guitarist reached out to his good friend, another legend of the extreme scene, Cryptopsy’s Flo Mounier, and asked him to form a band together. The Canadian drummer agreed, but both artists were aware that a blend of black and death metal of such precision and force would need a frontman with a voice you can tell apart from miles away. They found the right candidate in David Vincent, who in the 90s made Morbid Angel a couple of death metal monuments. Having known the other two guys for some time, the vocalist didn’t need much convincing to come back from his metal hiatus and join the ranks of Vltimas.

In 2018, the three-piece entered the recording studio and in 2019, released their first (and so far, only) album “Something Wicked Marches In”. The record was met with positive reviews and was promoted with a world concert tour.
