1000mods

Do you like it when a band’s aware that the riff worship’s fundamental? Do you like it when the guitars seasoned with fuzz are paired with a heavy portion of rock ’n’ roll and, as a flavour counterbalance, psychedelic space meanderings? If all these elements bring a smile to your face, the Greek band 1000mods will be a great concert option for you. The Greek band is a textbook example of a properly served stoner rock. There’s heaviness, there’s fantasy, there’s punchiness.

History:

1000mods was formed in the sunny Greek village of Chiliomodi in 2006. In this village with a population of two thousand people, a group of four friends decided they wanted to play the kind of music which would constitute a blend of their favourite bands, such as MC5, Black Sabbath, Colour Haze or Kyuss.

The band wasn’t in a rush to get things released and although they did release an EP in 2006 titled Blank Reality, the follow-up, “Liquid Sleep”, wouldn’t be released until three years later. 2011, however, saw the release of the band’s full-length debut album “Super Van Vacation”. The old-school yet unrestrained interpretation of stoner and psychedelic rock allowed them to tour across Europe and piqued the interest of the stoner circles.

Keeping with the stylistic formula of the debut, the two subsequent records of the band (the 2014 “Vultures” and the 2016 “Repeated Exposure To…”) presented a more mature and intense sound and cemented the band’s reputation as one of the more esteemed stoner outfits.

Despite that, the Southern European quartet has proved that even with a stable fanbase and a blossoming popularity they will choose to travel the uncharted waters. Their latest record, “Youth of Dissent” from 2020, goes deeper into the 90s alternative rock territory and has little to do with the classically defined stoner rock.
