.WAVS

It will only take you a couple of minutes with these guys to start to wonder whether Seattle isn’t a city somewhere in Poland after all. Hailing from Kraków, .WAVS is one of these bands which rediscover and rethink the many faces of 90s alternative rock, with the band paying special attention to grunge. Both on recordings and stage, the band can offer a solid dose of melancholy with a dash of shoegazey sound palms, and a heaviness juxtaposed with defeat. Wear your best flannel shirt and dash straight to the stage!

History:

.WAVS is the music brainchild of Maciej Kowalski, known for example for his involvement in the stoner-sludge band Purplehaze Ensemble. Formed in Kraków, the band has always looked at the 90s with affection – a period when various subtypes of alternative rock, but grunge specifically, had their moment in the mainstream sun. The band decidedly settles into this stylistic neighbourhood with their first (and so far, only) album. The self-titled album from 2019 was considered a successful emulation of the 90s rock free of the brazen retro-stylisation and it opened many venue doors for the band.

Then came the 2020 single “Hey Boy,” after the release of which the band slowed things down a little. They came back three years later with a new line-up, releasing a few singles and sealing the deal with the EP “Sól”. The band’s latest release is the single “ONS.”
